Maureen Thorson has a cool NaPoWriMo prompt today: "write a poem that stretches your comfort zone with line breaks. That could be a poem with very long lines, or very short lines. Or a poem that blends the two. You might break to emphasize (or de-emphasize) sounds or rhymes, or to create a moment of hesitation in the middle of a thought." Robert Lee Brewer’s Poem-a-Day prompt today is focused on topic: "pick a food, make it the title of your poem, and write your poem. It can be a food you love, food you hate, or food you’ve never even tried before. Your poem can be about the food — or not. Your choice." Okay, here we go, mixing the two prompts. Well, this is interesting. This poem just happened, pretty much typed like it was dictated by the speaker. Maybe 3 or 4 minutes? Tongue I tried very hard to make line breaks that are very different from my typical practice. I wonder if that contributed to how easily and swiftly this poem flowed out of my brain. Glad to have an aswang poem appear. This is part of my ongoing novella-in-poems about two aswang (mythic Philippine monsters) who fall in love — she a self-segmenting vampire, he a weredog (he's the speaker of this poem) — and try to live as ordinary humans in plain sight.
