Day 14. The end of two weeks! Can you believe it? Two-weeks-plus left to go. Maureen Thorson's NaPoWriMo prompt "invites us to try a seven-line poem called a san san, which means 'three three' in Chinese (It’s also a term of art in the game Go). The san san has some things in common with the tritina, including repetition and rhyme. In particular, the san san repeats, three times, each of three terms or images. The seven lines rhyme in the pattern a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d. . . . I hope you have fun giving the san san a try. Happy writing!" Robert Lee Brewer's PAD prompt: "For today’s prompt, write a time out poem. There are moments in my life that I wish I could take a time out. For instance, it would’ve been nice earlier this year when I had pneumonia, but life and work keeps chugging along. But there’s always a chance to take time outs in poetry if you dare. So dare to write a time out poem (or two) today." I'm going to "follow" Brewer's "time out" prompt by taking a time out from both prompts today. I'm writing a Kennings Poem today. Kennings are two-word metaphors from Old English, such as "whale road" for sea or "word hoard" for poem (from Beowulf). The kennings poem is a riddle (also an Old English staple) made up of kennings. See this Forward Poetry webpage for more on this form. Okay, here's my kennings poem. Poem Would you write a comment below, please, if you have a guess what the solution to the riddle is? Thanks. Sarah also wrote a kennings poem. Brava, Sarah! Untitled If you think you know what this is, would you write a comment below, please? Thanks. Ven very ambitiously tried to all three prompts: "san san," "time out," and "kennings." Time out! Pretty amazing juggling act there, Ven. Jed followed Brewer's "time out" prompt today. Time-Out! About today's poem, Alan says, "Here's my attempt at the san san form." Cloudburst Great use of /l/ sounds, Alan: lying, lay, like love's lessons, release, etc. Friends, won't you comment, please? Love to know what you're thinking. To comment, look for a red line below that starts Posted by, then click once on the word comments in that line. If you don't find the word "comments" in that line, then look for a blue link below that says Post a comment and click it once. Thanks! Ingat, everyone. ヅ |
