Sad day today. Again a curtal sonnet, which seems to be my go-to form.
In Memoriam
I found out today my old friend Debi
passed away yesterday. She was my crush
in sixth or seventh grade, perhaps longer
than that. It’s gone on sixty years, maybe.
She had dirty blonde hair, cute button nose.
When we were young teens, she spent each summer
in Imperial Beach five hundred miles
away, and she would send me chatty, lush
letters once a week. What I remember
most: hanging out on Debi’s porch, those smiles
I’ll prize forever.
