Friends, great news! On April 1st, tomorrow, my poetry collection The Coolest Month will be published by Final Thursday Press. Here's the Amazon link but if you order direct from the press (details near the end of this post) you can get a signed copy for a cheaper price. Here is the cover of the book, front and back. (Click on the image to view it larger.) The Coolest Month — a play on T. S. Eliot's calling April "the cruellest month" — is coming out in April because the book collects poems written for NaPoWriMo and Poem-a-Day, with a poem for each day in April written on that day some time in the last six years. These 30 poems almost all mash up the NaPoWriMo and PAD prompts, and endnotes explain the genesis of each poem, occasionally providing a short primer on the poetic forms in play. Jim O'Loughlin, founder/publisher/editor of Final Thursday Press posted an interview with me on the book today. Won't you check that out too? Here's a link to the interview. Many MANY thanks to Maureen Thorson and Robert Lee Brewer, founders of the NaPoWriMo and Poem-a-Day projects. They were a great inspiration to me in writing the April poems — the 30 in the book and also the 200+ others since 2012, when I started writing a poem a day in April. And of course Maureen and Robert have inspired countless others. And are about to again, as NaPoWriMo and Poem-a-Day begin again tomorrow. And I'll be right there with my daily ditty this April! And, last but not least, I'm very grateful to Jim O'Loughlin for publishing me again. (The first time was my chapbook Ghost Wars.) Thanks, Jim! There will be a book release reading for The Coolest Month on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:00 p.m. in Bartlett 1017 on the University of Northern Iowa campus. The book will be available locally at the UNI Bookstore and the Hearst Center for the Arts. However, you can get a signed copy for $9.95 via check to “Final Thursday Press,” 815 State St., Cedar Falls IA 50613. Friends, won’t you comment, please? Love to know what you’re thinking.
