The river of life transmuted to the river of death, its connection to the conquistadors, and the sense of creativity truncated by external circumstance/pollution of the source. I will be returning to mine this beauty again and again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3507971738519746004.post-31076934462378841282011-10-03T13:17:11.071-05:002011-10-03T13:17:11.071-05:00I love coming to this site and reading all the gre...I love coming to this site and reading all the great content.
lady gaga halloween costume ideaslady gaga halloween costumehttp://www.theladygagahalloweencostume.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3507971738519746004.post-6714050537497225592009-02-20T13:59:00.000-06:002009-02-20T13:59:00.000-06:00Hi, Jesse! I am crying over both your bereavement, a bereavement accentuated by your inadvertent actions on that propleptically fateful Friday when your were last in the physical presence of the poet, and what you have given me -- us -- through and with this bereavement. Clearly, Arturo Islas was a true poem; that is, a composition and pattern of the best and honorablest things, as are you.Jesse Swanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09151517158341070732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3507971738519746004.post-73750062213203863352009-02-19T10:27:00.000-06:002009-02-19T10:27:00.000-06:00Okay, I've revised the poem to say "San Pedro Cutu...Okay, I've revised the poem to say "San Pedro Cutud" instead of "Ctuhud." In terms of Filipino language, "Kutud" is probably correct, technically, but news sources seem to use "Cutud" uniformly. And I reflowed a couple of lines elsewhere in the poem. No biggie.Vince Goterahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10873850315003080382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3507971738519746004.post-27506585437992932902009-02-18T23:42:00.000-06:002009-02-18T23:42:00.000-06:00Dranned: Thanks so much for your comment about the...Dranned: Thanks so much for your comment about the poem. I really appreciate it.

I got the spelling of "Ctuhud" from the San Antonio newspaper article I mentioned in this entry. I did double-check it in the article back then, while I was composing the poem; I'm certain I did because I remember thinking at the time that the spelling didn't seem correct.

I recently discovered that the name is spelled either "Cutud" or "Kutud" depending on which sources you consult. I suppose if and when the poem appears in a collection or anthology, I'll change it. In fact, I may change it in this blog entry, but I'm too lazy to do it right this second.

I also remember that the spelling reminded me of Cthulhu (a là Lovecraft). But I suppose that's not a good reason to keep the misspelling. Thanks for prodding me about it.Vince Goterahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10873850315003080382noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3507971738519746004.post-56751741880471862112009-02-18T15:54:00.000-06:002009-02-18T15:54:00.000-06:00I had to resubmit my comment because I mistyped......I had to resubmit my comment because I mistyped...
Ok, here it is:

I truly love this poem. It's beautiful, and from your description, that beauty is appropriate as a reflection of Islas' nature. I wonder, though, if "Ctuhud" is spelled correctly? Only your use of the word comes up if Ctuhud is Googled. :PAnne M.
